Update: Free SME Training Opens Across Pakistan in September

Free digital and AI training is opening up for small businesses across Pakistan starting September 2026. Over 1,000 shop owners, home based sellers and service providers are set to benefit through a new program backed by the government and Meta.

What Is Pakistan’s Free SME Training Program

The Small Business Growth Academy, known as SBGA, is a free digital skills program for small and medium businesses in Pakistan. It was launched by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication together with Meta.

AtomCamp is running the training on the ground. Ignite National Technology Fund, SMEDA, P@SHA, PSEB and DialZero are also supporting the effort.

This is not a loan or a cash grant. It is a skills program. Business owners learn how to use Meta platforms and AI tools to reach more customers and grow online.

According to official sources, the training has no registration fee or hidden charge since Meta is funding the whole initiative.

Who Can Apply for the Small Business Growth Academy

Owners and managers of small and medium businesses across Pakistan can apply. The program lists several eligible sectors.

These include retail, fashion and clothing, food and beverage, crafts and handmade products, agriculture, textiles, services and consulting, home based businesses and technology enabled businesses.

Women led businesses are particularly encouraged to register. This mirrors similar efforts such as the Punjab digital plan helping women earn from home and the KP digital skills program for women in Peshawar.

More than 1,000 small and medium businesses across nine Pakistani cities will get free training starting September 2026, with online sessions through Google Meet and in person refresher events running into late October.

What the Curriculum Covers

The course focuses heavily on Meta’s platforms. Participants learn how to set up and improve Facebook Pages, Instagram Business profiles and WhatsApp Business accounts.

Training also covers Reels and Stories, digital advertising, audience targeting, budget management, lead generation and performance measurement.

AI tools are part of the syllabus too. Business owners learn how AI can support content creation and ad campaigns, though it is presented as a tool, not a shortcut to instant sales.

Where the Sessions Are Held

The main training runs online through Google Meet and lasts about three to three and a half hours. It is followed by a two hour in person refresher session in one of nine cities.

Those cities are Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Multan, Hyderabad, Peshawar and Quetta.

How to Register for the Free SBGA Training

Registration is handled entirely through AtomCamp. The process has four simple steps.

First, applicants fill out the form on the official SBGA page. Second, AtomCamp reviews applications and confirms selected participants through WhatsApp. Third, participants attend the online Google Meet session. Fourth, they join the two hour city refresher event.

Applicants need a smartphone or laptop, a stable internet connection and an active or planned Meta business account. Sessions run in both Urdu and English.

Avoiding Registration Scams

As per government announcements, there is no fee attached to this program at any stage. Applicants should be cautious of anyone asking for money in exchange for guaranteed selection.

Registration should only be completed through the official AtomCamp website, and personal details should be shared only through verified channels.

Why This Free Digital Training Matters for Pakistan’s Economy

SMEDA data shows that more than 90 percent of economic establishments in Pakistan are SMEs. These businesses contribute close to 40 percent of GDP and around 30 percent of exports, excluding services.

A June 2026 government statement also put the number of MSMEs in Pakistan at nearly 7.14 million, employing more than 80 percent of the non agricultural workforce.

Programs like this connect to wider goals set out in national policy, including the National Youth Employment Policy, which also aims to expand digital and job focused skills across the country.

The Government of Pakistan’s Press Information Department confirmed the national rollout of the program in its official announcement.

What Businesses Should Know Before Joining

The training builds skills. It does not guarantee sales or revenue growth on its own. Results still depend on product quality, pricing, customer service and follow through after the course.

Businesses that already have a Facebook or Instagram page, a WhatsApp Business account and basic sales data will get more out of the sessions. Comparing current results with what is taught in the course makes the training more useful.
